There is nothing worth doing that is easy
– Anonomous
Hi friends.
I’ve created this website for all of you to follow my journey to mastering all the elements of media: film photography, digital photography, videography, and the final frontier – FPV cinematography.
I figure whatever I get up to in this silly little life, committing myself to a constant pursuit of improving ways to document the precious moments that life presents is a worthwhile endeavor.
My journey began incidentally in August of 2023 after losing my phone in an Uber which sent me searching for alternative ways to replace all the various utility that a mobile device provides in modern life. One of the critical functions that I felt that I could not go without was the ability of capture a mundane moment in a photograph.
I was thankful enough to be able to inherit my aunt’s Minolta Maxxum 3xi 35mm Film Camera from the early 90’s which was in incredible working condition. On a spontaneous day-trip to Florida, I flew with nothing but the clothes on my back and a foreign picture taking device I had never operated in my life.
I landed at the airport and was picked up at the exact place I had agreed upon meeting, since I had no way of communicating without the safety net of my phone at my convenience. We went straight to a camera store to buy a roll of film which I had to learn how to load on the spot. There wasn’t an exposure left after the day was through, and after receiving the developed results back in NY, I knew I was hooked for life. *See Maro*
Walking around New York with nothing but a camera and eyes open wide for any semblance of a beautiful shot was the nail in the coffin. In a place where most people are moving about from point A to point B, fully tuned out, airpods in, nose in a phone, I found myself truly free for the first time. Free from the shackles of modern convenience, free to wander down whatever street, avenue, or corridor sparked my inspiration for nothing but the excitement of what could lay on the other side.
My last four months in New York felt like an eternity as my obsession with film took hold. I am so incredibly thankful to have shared such precious moments with so many of my favorite people in NY, experimenting with different ISO’s and film stocks along the way.
There is a lot still left to learn before I can deem myself worthy of progressing to the next phase of my journey. With a digital camera, I will be able to utilize the full suite of ISO’s at any given moment. Mastering the art of film should prepare me to select the proper ISO in unique lighting situations.
Until then, please enjoy my rolls as they come out and feel free to provide me any feedback or tips you have for my journey. BIG travel plans for summer 2024… please reach out to me if you have any photogenic cities you think I should visit in Europe!!
